About Us
Information for Visiting Companies
There are two main ways that outside companies can play at either of our theatres: as programmed or as “hosted” non-programmed shows. You can also Hire both theatres, subject to availability once all Programmed and Hosted work is confirmed.
Programmed shows appear in our brochure and run on many different financial arrangements including splits, hires and guarantees. The group that is responsible for programming these shows is comprised of Ali Robertson, Carrie Rhys Davies and Melanie Zaalof. We try not to programme shows without knowing a substantial amount about the company so if we don’t yet know you then you might consider inviting us to see your work first. We receive a massive number of invitations but try to see as much as we can.
We programme a limited number of Hosted shows each season, and favour local companies and those who we have an existing relationship with. Hosted shows only receive a couple of lines, and no image, in the brochure (all hosted shows are grouped on one page). They receive no marketing support but they do receive technical and FOH support: we don’t do dry hires. They appear on the hire section of our website and their tickets are sold through our box-office. Financial arrangements are almost invariably that the companies hire the theatre, but we might consider a split in certain circumstances. David Dewhurst is the contact for Hosted Shows.
In addition to Programmed and Hosted shows, we also Hire both theatres. Theatre Hires come with the same FOH and technical support as Hosted shows, however are not featured in the brochure. David Dewhurst is the contact for Hires.
We run three seasons per year, which are approximately Dec – April (Spring), May – August (Summer) and Sep – Dec (Autumn).

“ Having a theatre like the Tobacco Factory about 5 minutes walk from my house is a joy and one that I'm happy to do what I can to support. ”
